What is the Gift of Life?

Gift of Life - Arizona, Inc. is a nonprofit tax exempt 501( C ) (3) organization administered by participating Rotarians and friends for the purpose of providing open- heart surgery to needy children.

Mission Statement

The mission of the Gift of Life - Arizona, Inc. program is to provide medical care and support for needy children and their families world wide who are suffering from congenital heart defects.

What Does Gift of Life Pay For?

The program pays the participating hospital a small stipend of $6,000 per child to cover core costs. And the Gift of Life / Arizona, Inc. pays for the necessary medications and may pay for the transportation cost of the child and one parent. Pediatricians, pediatric cardiologists, pediatric heart surgeons, and professional medical support services generously give their time and talents without any compensation.

What Does a Pediatric Open-Heart Surgery Cost?

The “average” open-heart surgery today costs approximately $100,000.

What Is the Benefit Provided Since 1985?

Since 1985 the benefits provided by the Gift of Life - Arizona, Inc. program amounts to over $12,000,000.00.

Our Accomplishments

The program has provided the means for over 200 needy children from 20 different countries to have successful open heart surgery.
Provided medical equipment and supplies to both local and foreign hospitals.
Provided training and education to doctors in foreign countries.
Funded continuing education for local pediatric cardiac care nurses.
Funded a clinical study of Phoenix-area children with cardiac defects.

Opportunities to Participate

Serve as a host family for a child and his/her parents.
Financially support Gift of Life.
Recommend Needy Children.
